Duane Reboul named special assistant for Samford men’s basketball program
New Orleans native Duane Reboul, a former area high school coach, UNO basketball player and assistant coach, is back on the scene in college basketball after a lengthy retirement.
The 71-year old Reboul . Located in Birmingham, Ala., Samford is a natural fit for Reboul as a longtime resident of that area who will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame this year.
A graduate of De La Salle and UNO, Reboul led the Birmingham-Southern men’s basketball program to success during their years as a Division I program in the Big South Conference. The former point guard helped the Privateers attain the No. 1 ranking in Division II in 1971.
Reboul also led De La Salle to a state finals appearance in 1976 as part of his three seasons in charge at his alma mater and later coached at Jesuit for six seasons before joining the Privateers staff as an assistant. He served as an assistant at Mississippi State after leaving UNO.
